“To see in color is a delight for the eye, but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul.” – Andri Cauldwell
Most of us are lucky to live our lives seeing bold, beautiful color. It’s easy to take that for granted and not really think about the multitude of colors and tones in a scene. That’s what I find wonderful about monochrome or black & white photography. By removing color, we can really start to appreciate the tones and textures in an image.
As a photographer, converting a color image to black and white offers even more creative opportunity, taking a potentially dull scene and creating a striking work of art. Further, going out to photograph scenes with black and white in mind forces me to look for compositions that are deep in texture and tone.
