Sometimes when in a location I find it difficult to find the perfect landscape composition. In those moments, I remind myself that it’s not just about the big skies and grand vistas. They say to “stop and smell the roses”, this is also true in photography. You have to look down, view the big and the small, and take in the details as well as the overall. In this case, I was roaming around California’s coast near Cabrillo National Monument. The sky was a flat overcast and not at all interesting, so it was the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with things on the ground. The patterns and textures of this agave plant really stood out to me, so I spent quite some time photographing it from various angles. This was one of my favorites from that outing.
